About the event

The DP core is the one part of the IB no one’s ever formally trained for—there’s no TOK degree, no CAS qualification, and even the EE still stumps the pros. But it’s what gives the DP its edge, helping students think critically, act ethically, and reflect deeply—skills that last a lifetime.

This year’s DP Core Roundtable brings you three focused sessions on using AI in the EE process, fostering inclusivity through TOK, and rethinking CAS to inspire purpose.

Session 01

Pushing the boundaries of the TOK course

February 21 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST (60 mins)

Besides questioning how we know what we know, can TOK be a tool to build a community where everyone belongs and has a voice?

Michael Dunn, founder of theoryofknowedge.net, certainly feels that way.

In this session, you will:

  • Learn how to use TOK as a framework to create a supportive and inclusive school culture
  • Integrate TOK with the DP for a cohesive and engaging learning experience
  • Explore how TOK supports student well-being by fostering resilience and engagement with complex ideas
  • Connect TOK’s transferable skills to stronger university applications

Session 02

Mastering AI tools for the EE

February 22 | 9:00 – 10:00 AM PST (60 mins)

Let’s face it: no student today completes their EE without some input from AI. But how do we get our students to use it critically while maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity?

Carlos Diaz, EE coordinator at Renaissance International School, has been leading the way in ethical AI use in student research.

In this session, you will:

  • Discover specialized AI tools that support students from identifying sources to writing outlines
  • Learn about the challenges and boundaries of AI in the EE process
  • Gain strategies to teach students ethical AI use and prevent academic malpractice

Session 03

Making CAS a meaningful learning journey

February 22 | 10:15 – 11:15 AM PST (60 mins)

How can you design a meaningful CAS program when resources and time are in short supply?

Revisit CAS’s core values and purpose with Peter Muir to design impactful student experiences, no matter the challenges.

In this session, you will:

  • Unpack the aims of CAS and align them with your school’s mission
  • Explore student-friendly methods for evidencing learning in CAS
  • Develop strategies for critical reflection and student engagement in CAS
