Assessments

This section offers a detailed perspective on each of the four assessments used to evaluate your students’ performance in the course. The first section, big picture, zeros in on the rubrics used to evaluate student work on the assessments. By looking at the language used to describe superior student performance with respect to each of the four criteria, you’ll gain valuable insights into what your students will learn how to do during the two-year course span. The subsequent sections focus on one of the four (3 at Standard Level) assessments: Paper 1, Paper 2, the Individual Oral, and the Higher Level Essay. Each section features general approaches as well as specific teaching tools to help you guide your students to performing at the highest level.

At Higher Level, the following sequence of texts and assessments is suggested.
